As a solo traveller I get this! I give extra mental points (as in a rating system in my head) if I go somewhere to eat and they offer to look after the boys while I nip to the loo, it makes such a difference.

Hah yes there's always a mental points system on the go! I don't think I'd leave Arty with someone though. I once had a staff member offer when I was in Brighton in a beach bar, but then half way through they handed him over to a stranger who was outside smoking, then I got back and the guy said he thinks the dog had eaten a cigarette butt! I was LIVID.

Thankfully it's usually when I am eating inside and they are chilled out next to the table and the staff have been brilliant.

Love, love, love this

I brought my Corgi EVERYWHERE. If she couldn't go or wasn't welcome, neither was I. She was better behaved than most humans. Definitely more friendly. Thanks for the laughter.

Carry on friends.

I have also found people who sit in the dog friendly area and then complain about dogs or ask for you to make sure you keep them well away from them when the establishment has a no dogs area as well!

You just can't please some people!

I also travel solo and take my dog into the public toilets. As she is a large greyhound I now not only judge toilets by cleanness but also good (she fits in the stall with me) and bad (she doesn’t fit).

Haha this is excellent! We need a toilet stall grading system by dogs - smallest being chihuahua and largest, roomiest being Great Dane or something 😂

Being a Scot, living in the Central belt but travelling all over with my two dogs, I find Scotland in general is way behind many areas of England when it comes to accessibility with dogs. I still feel the need to enquire if they are dog friendly and have my places I go to regularly, whereas when we travel in England (mainly the East Coast) from Northumbria to Suffolk it appears that everywhere is dog friendly.

Yes, I do think England has got it down for dog owners! Scotland is still so wonderful though, and there are some surprising attractions you can take them to here, like the aquarium in Tobermory! And nowhere in the UK beats Scotland for dog walks!

I dunno.... Northumbria runs it very close! There are so many hidden gems though. Even in the cities. Glasgow Green is a fabulous city centre walk with great options for food and drink which are generally very dog friendly. And with the bonus of a short stroll from the city centre.

I’m like you and always take my dog into public loos. Doing everything on my own for past three years since being widowed has made me stronger and more prepared to call out unnecessary rules that stand in the way of me living a solo life with my dog. Way to go!

Yes!! Good for you! I'm sorry you were widowed. I hope the dog has brought you immense comfort in these years. Happy adventuring to you both x
